Remaining energy efficient is a top priority of NJ casinos as the state supports clean energy objectives for all local companies. Using alternative forms of energy allows a company to free up resources for the local community. For Caesars Entertainment, the brand plans to be carbon neutral by 2050 and is already working on the goal by adding solar panels to two of its Atlantic City casinos.

Harrah’s and Caesars Add Solar Panels
The company recently added solar panels to Harrah’s Casino Resort and Caesars Casino Atlantic City. The operator is working with DSD Renewables, a New York-based company that installed four solar canopies on the parking garages of both casinos. The panels will help provide 8.29 MWh of clean energy annually.
A fifth canopy will be installed next year, helping to further reduce the carbon footprint of Caesars via its casinos in Atlantic City. Atlantic City Electric provides electricity to the area, and Caesars Entertainment is among its largest consumers. Along with the Caesars and Harrah’s properties, the operator is responsible for Tropicana and consumes a great deal of energy daily.
The solar panels will cut down on around 6% of the company's overall needs and reduce the load on the electric company. It will make more energy available for other customers in the area. The change is one of several steps Caesars plans to take to become carbon neutral by 2050.
Eastern regional president for Caesars Entertainment, John Koster, commented that the project is a pivotal moment for the clean energy efforts of the company. It is about championing the introduction and growth of clean energy resources that create jobs and economic development that benefit the local community.
Koster stated further that the company is pleased to be working with the governor and Board of Public Utilities to advance the energy goals of New Jersey. Great progress is being made to reduce energy use by finding sustainable resources such as solar panels to remove the load from the traditional energy systems.
More Details on the Solar Panel Installations
The completed projects in the Atlantic City casinos include various solar panel installations. Caesars added 1.7 MW and 886 kW to its garages, while Harrah’s has 1.9 MW added to the self-parking garage and another 1.9 MW at the valet garage. Harrah’s Waterfront Conference Center will add panels with a 913 kW installation. This project will be completed in 2024. The goal of the installations is to create environmental sustainability in the local community, and the partnership with DSD allows Caesars to accomplish this goal.
Senior VP of engineering and asset management for Caesars stated that the projects in Atlantic City are a prime example of how the company is pursuing integrating more clean energy resources within its business and implementing on-site renewables within its portfolio on a national level.
More projects are to come for Caesars as the company looks to expand its environmentally friendly efforts regarding energy. DSD has financed and developed the solar panel installations and will remain a long-term owner of the systems and operator.
The company is currently exploring other ways to add solar panels to properties in other destinations across the US. Caesars is a recognizable brand that offers casino gaming in several states. As the brand progresses to be more energy efficient, it will surely add even more solar panels and additional efforts to its properties nationwide.
In 2024, we will see how Caesars continues its plan to become more energy efficient. It will not be surprising to see the brand adding solar panels to other venues in an effort to reach its carbon neutral footprint in the next 26 years.
